Trial Census

What is Trial Census?

The Trial Census is a dress rehearsal to evaluate all aspects of the census in operation before the main census in on a limited scale.

Specific Objectives of the Trial Census
  • To assess the quality and the usefulness of the Enumeration Area (EA) maps that had been created.
  • To determine the possible demographic as well as geographical changes that might have occurred in the EAs carved between 2016 - 2018 and their implications for census in taking.
  • To determine the possible demographic as well as geographical changes that might have occurred in the EAs carved between 2016 - 2018 and their implications for census in taking.
  • To determine the feasibility of uploading EA maps on the census in app for house numbering and household listing as well as population enumeration.
  • To determine the correlation between EAD estimated population and the pre test enumerated population.
  • To determine the requisite educational qualification for the 2023 census in enumerators.
  • To determine the appropriateness of the estimated workload on the enumerators.
  • To determine the necessary logistics support that might be required from the states and LGAs.
When Trial Census exercise be carried out?

From 13th July to 31st July, 2022

Where will Trial Census be carried out?
  • The 36 States and the FCT
  • 285 LGAs
  • 7681 Enumeration Areas
How will Trial Census be carried out?

Enumerators will move around your community numbering houses and enumerating members of households in the selected enumeration areas.

What Trial Census is not?

The trial census in is not the actual enumeration of the population for the 2023 Census in. It's outcome will not form the basis of the 2023 Census in result.

What are your expected roles

Please cooperate with enumerators by doing the following:

  • Allow them to move freely within your community for the trial census in.
  • Give them access to buildings/housing units in order to enumerate members of the household.
  • Provide adequate security for the enumerators and their equipment during the Trial Census in exercise.
  • Respond truthfully to enquiries from the enumerators.
  • Do not interfere in the exercise and allow enumerators to carry out assignment professionally.
